Search Jamestown Court Records

Start any docket search by figuring out whether you need an old file or a live case. Jamestown has no town court anymore. That means a current matter never begins at Town Hall just because it started in town. For Jamestown court records from the past, an old municipal court identifier may still sit inside converted state data, so those identifiers matter. For anything active, trust the court printed on the citation, notice, or cause number, which usually points to a Boone County court. A case code plus the filing date will get you further than a name alone, and the clerk who now keeps the file can confirm what you found.

Jamestown Code 06I03 Ended

Indiana's Administrative Rule 8 records the fact plainly. Jamestown Court, identifier 06I03, was abolished on April 10, 2019. That date is the dividing line for Jamestown court records. It stops an old code from being mistaken for a live filing instruction.

A case opened before abolition can still show the Jamestown identifier. That happens in legacy or converted data. The code stays useful long after the court stopped sitting. Pull the full cause number. Weigh the filing date against April 10, 2019. Follow any transfer or disposition entries that came later in the record. Ending the court never erased its lawful case history.

Note: A historical Jamestown code marks the old court record. It does not permit filing a new matter with the town.

Inside the Jamestown Municipal Court

Under Indiana's current court-numbering rule, Jamestown runs no municipal court. That single fact shapes every Jamestown court docket question. There is no sitting judge, no local docket day, no municipal filing counter. There is no Jamestown court calendar either. The court was abolished in 2019. Treating Town Hall as if it still operated 06I03 misses the mark. It would send you to the wrong office.

Old Jamestown cases may reflect the narrow work a municipal court once handled. The route to the record depends on the case itself. MyCase may carry converted public data. For a county-held file, try Lisa Brucker's Boone County Clerk office. Staff there can help or point to the right office. Follow any current citation or notice exactly as printed, since the court that issued it controls.

Jamestown Town Hall Is Different

Jamestown Town Hall handles civic business today, but it is not a working Jamestown court. The address is 421 E. Main Street, Jamestown, Indiana 46147. Mail goes to PO Box 165, Jamestown, Indiana 46147. The phone is 765-676-6331. Staff there can sometimes route a municipal-record question. The office is not a docket counter for 06I03, though.

The town's official page also covers its local history and government contacts. It is useful context for reaching town officials. It does nothing to change the legal status of the abolished court code.

Jamestown court records and current Town Hall source

Town Hall fits present municipal administration or initial routing. A Jamestown court record, though, runs through the cause number, the filing date, MyCase, and the Boone County Clerk. Two different tracks.

Finding Jamestown Court Dates

Any current Jamestown court date belongs to a court. It is the court named on the case, citation, summons, or notice. No revived 06I03 calendar exists. Pull the cause number in MyCase and read the newest CCS setting. Then check every entry after it for a reset, continuance, cancellation, transfer, or order. A setting only proves an event was scheduled, not that it happened.

Boone's courts do not appear as live nodes. That is in the statewide Trial Court Calendars participation data right now. An empty calendar result therefore cancels nothing tied to Jamestown. If the date stays unclear, call the assigned court. You can also call the Boone County Clerk at 765-482-3510. Read older Jamestown dates as part of the earlier CCS sequence.

DateThe scheduled day; later Jamestown record entries may move it
TimeThe listed start or docket time, which the assigned court should confirm
CourtThe current court identifier, or historical 06I03 on a legacy case
JudgeThe assigned judicial officer shown in the case, not a presumed Jamestown judge
Setting TypeA hearing, conference, trial, review, or other scheduled event

Jamestown Records Need Code and Date

The 2020 Census incorporated-place table counted 942 residents in Jamestown. That is helpful local context. It does not, however, make a name-only match trustworthy. Similar names show up in different courts and different years. A cause number paired with a filing date is a much stronger key for Jamestown court records. Old data can still carry an abolished municipal identifier.

The official Census incorporated-place source lists Jamestown among the top places used for Boone County city profiles.

Jamestown court records population context from Census rows

Population tells you nothing about caseload or identity. What it does tell you is how to run a Jamestown docket search: lean on a full case code and a narrow date range instead of a wide name sweep.

Names can mislead in Boone County records. The same Jamestown resident might show up as plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or some other role in matters that have nothing to do with each other. MyCase also caps broad result sets and sometimes triggers captcha checks, so filtering by Boone court and filing date makes the docket easier to read and more accurate too. When two results still look plausible, ask the clerk to confirm the cause number rather than clicking the first matching name in the court docket.

Jamestown Traffic Ticket Lookups

Start with the ticket itself. A citation written in Jamestown belongs to whatever court is printed on it. The stop happening in town does not make it a matter for the former Jamestown Court. Indiana's ePay portal can find eligible tickets by UTT number, driver's-license number, or name with date of birth. Expect delays. A new ticket can take ten business days to show up, and not every ticket or court is available.

With a cause number in hand, MyCase offers another public route. Boone Superior Court II handles county traffic infractions, while certain traffic crimes follow Boone's local assignment rules. The Boone County traffic court record resource walks through countywide payment and deferral options. And remember, Jamestown Town Hall cannot stand in for the court named on the citation.

Jamestown Began Boone Court History

Jamestown's court history runs older than the defunct municipal court. According to the official Boone Circuit Court history, Boone Circuit Court held its first term in a Jamestown home. Term two met in Thorntown. Term three met in Lebanon, at the home of A.H. Longley. Circuit Court later settled at Lebanon's courthouse center.

That timeline matters for docket research. Jamestown court history is far bigger than 06I03. A town name in an early reference may not point to any modern municipal docket at all. The first Boone Circuit term in Jamestown belongs to county court history, while the abolished Jamestown Court code belongs to a much later record system.

How Jamestown Cases Reach the County

Today a Jamestown case lands wherever jurisdiction and the official case papers say it does. Boone Circuit Court, Superior Court I, and Superior Court II each keep their own county court identifier. Each one is distinct. Circuit handles criminal and civil work plus exclusive paternity and juvenile matters. Superior I covers criminal, civil, and probate. Superior II takes criminal, civil, small claims, and traffic infractions.

Docket flow: Jamestown event or filing › Assigned Boone County court › Boone Circuit Court or Superior Court CCS

That routing replaced any active Jamestown municipal court. So search the current cause number, not a guessed local venue. If an older Jamestown case was transferred, read both the historical 06I03 sequence and the later Boone County entries. The Boone County court docket overview lays out the county-level court split. It does not turn Town Hall into a court.

Jamestown Appellate Record Route

Appeals do not stay inside the Jamestown or Boone trial CCS. Indiana appellate cases carry their own case number and event list. The Indiana Appellate Case Search lets you look up litigants, attorneys, or case numbers. Advanced filters cover county of origin, trial court, case type, filing dates, and event type.

The official appellate form shows those filter options in plain view. For an appeal tied to a historical Jamestown case, enter the lower-court number or cross-reference. Then set Boone as the county of origin.

Jamestown court records in the Indiana appellate search

The appellate docket is its own record layer. A Jamestown trial-court CCS may note an appeal, but the appellate filings and events live in the state system.

Who Can See Jamestown Court Records

Indiana's court-access rules govern what the public can see of Jamestown court records. The state presumes access in general. Even so, confidential, sealed, expunged, juvenile, adoption, protection-order, mental-health, and other excluded material may be missing or redacted. A document absent from MyCase did not necessarily never exist. It may sit with the clerk. It may be limited to an authorized party or require a court order granting access.

Key access rules:

Indiana Access to Court Records Rule 4 states the general presumption of public access.

Access to Court Records Rule 9 supplies a process for requesting an excluded record.

Indiana Trial Rule 77 defines the CCS, case file, orders, indexes, and related court records.

For a historical Jamestown record, contact Lisa Bruder, Boone County Clerk. Her office sits at 212 Courthouse Square, Lebanon, Indiana 46052, and her phone line is 765-482-3510. Posted hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Give the clerk the 06I03 number first. Then add the filing date, the party role, and the exact document you want. Town Hall can help with current civic records. Court access rules still control the former court file.

Jamestown Town and Court Files

A Jamestown Town Hall record and a Jamestown court record are not the same thing. Current town administrative records may fall under Indiana's Access to Public Records Act. A request there can start with Town Hall. Former court records answer to the Indiana Rules on Access to Court Records instead. The clerk applies any exclusion. Neither law is a shortcut around the other.

That line keeps the town's civic role intact. It still respects the historical path for the abolished court's files. For a current town record, an Indiana APRA request should spell out the subject, date range, and department. Say whether you want inspection or copies. For a Jamestown court record, name the cause number. Then name the exact pleading, order, CCS, or judgment sought. Asking for every record tied to a name is fuzzier. It can tangle town administration together with court history. Match the request to whichever office legally holds the record.
